Changes in Breathing

Niamh had a pretty quiet day until the evening when her breathing started to change. Her breathing became much more rattling and much faster. These changes reached a peak at about 8pm when she was leaving big pauses between breaths. It seemed like she was stopping breathing and starting again. We weren't ready for this even though it's what we're here waiting for.

Niamh did settle a little after this and we repositioned her. She remained reasonably settled in the night with a few episodes like the earlier one.

We all stayed up late watching the sound of music and then slept close to Niamh.

  1. It is jarring and unsettling to think of what you are waiting for; it is admirable that you do so with courage, with love, with caring, with sharing - and much, much more.
You will always sleep with Niamh, and sleep easy, happy that you have done everything, and more, to ease and comfort her as she struggled.
We wish you well, and we send our love and support.

  2. This sounds a very dramatic change, and I am sure it is very frightening, no matter how well you prepare yourself for this.

The sound of music is one of our family favourites and so heartwarming.

It's good to know you close to Niamh, I am very sure it helps her greatly.

    I wish you well.

  7. The depth of your strength in handling the unimaginable, let alone writing about it, knows no bounds, and is genuinely inspiring. Niamh and Emilie have been truly blessed with you both as such wonderfully strong and brave parents.

We are so, so sad that you have been dealt such a deal in life; no-one should have to endure such a scenario. We hope that you can, even to a degree, take some comfort in the fact that so many people are constantly thinking of you all, and are sending much love and good wishes your way.

We are thinking of you all every moment, and hope you have a peaceful night tonight.

    Warmest regards,
    Aideen and Tom

  9. Just to let you know we're thinking of you every day and especially these last few days. It's hard to convey how much we feel for you and you do an amazing job conveying your feelings in the blog with such sensitivity and in such an articulate way. Nobody should have to go through this but Niamh obviously couldn't be surrounded by more tenderness and love. We love you all very much and I am at the end of the phone if you want to talk. A kiss to both your beautiful girls and you are in our hearts and prayers, lots of love Pia, Simon and Sofia xxx

  10. Your love is so amazing it is felt by all who read this and share, in some very small way, in your hurt and sorry, and in your moments of comfort and joy. Keep our love, our thoughts and prayers close and feed from them.
